Deformable objects which change the tactile

Wefve developed flexible objects which can change the size, shape and softness by the internal air pressure. Wefve considered the use for toys, rehabilitation equipment and healthcare equipment.
Wearable passive force display system

Wefve developed a wearable force display which provides a feeling of pushing an object or moving hands through water. Itfs light-weight and displays a big force in safety.
Orthosis to assist holding up a heavy object

Wefve developed an orthosis to reduce the load on the shoulders when holding a heavy object over head by the use of PMC. The hardened PMC that is attached to the upper limb and the waist transfers the force from the hand to the waist, and reduces the burden on the shoulders.

Wefve developed hand orthoses which provide viscoelasticity on the finger joints by the use of PMC. Wefve considered the use for reducing tremors for rehabilitation.

Brain area related to motor learning

Wefve investigated how the brain executes the leaning of skills. The left picture shows an experiment of mirror drawing in which a subject traces a figure with a pen by watching the mirror image of the shape. Since the moving direction of a hand on the mirror image is different to the normal one, subjects are puzzled at the beginning, but begin to trace smoothly after getting used to it. Wefve investigated the brain areas related to learning by fNIRS measurements.
Brain Computer Interface

Brain computer interface is an input device for controlling a computer or a device by the change of the brain activities.@Wefve developed a BCI using fNIRS. The past experimental results shows that itfs possible to dissociate the image of right hand grasping and that of left hand grasping by the difference of brain activities in the motor area. However, itfs also found that training of imaging motion is required to increase the BCI accuracy since the brain activities differ between subjects and between trials.
The hemodynamic response in the brain when watching opposite sex faces

Wefve investigated a method of measuring a feeling, such as happy or beautiful, by the hemodynamic response in the brain. We found that the facial attractiveness of a female face to a male subject can be estimated by the hemodynamic response in the left prefrontal cortex.
Hair mover for fNIRS measurement

fNIRS measurement requires us to move the hair of a subject in order to attach the probes to the scalp. Attaching many probes to the scalp costs a lot of time for moving hair, and is a burden on the subject, so wefve developed a mechanical hair mover.


Estimating the type of walking by the foot pressure

Pedometers are widely used as a convenient devise for measuring the amount of activity. However most of the pedometers in markets measure only the number of steps, so the estimated amount of activity contains error related to the type of walking such as normal walking, running, climbing a slope or climbing stairs. Wefve investigated the method of estimating the type of walking by the foot pressure.
Relationship between ability of organizing cluttered objects and visual performance

Some people are good at organizing cluttered objects, and some people are not. What kinds of abilities in the body are related to the organizing ability? We recorded the required time for organizing cluttered blocks on a table to the areas located on both sides, as shown in the left pictures, and we investigated the relationship between the required time and subjectfs abilities of instantaneous visual acuity, hand-eye coordination, memorizing, and logical thinking. We found that the time is correlated to the abilities of instantaneous visual acuity and logical thinking
